Introduction of a central control center and a patient portal in the hospital

With more than 1,400 inpatient planned beds and almost 4,000 employees at the hospital, Klinikum Braunschweig is one of the largest employers in the region. As a maximum care, university hospital, it provides care for the Braunschweig region with around 1.4 million residents.

With the goal of optimizing the patient experience and increasing efficiency in medical care, the Braunschweig Municipal Hospital (SKBS) has launched an important project. In cooperation with its partners TeleTracking and m.Doc, UNITY has implemented the first central control center in Germany for the scheduling and cleaning management of beds, as well as transport management, including the associated processes and organizational structures. At the same time, a patient portal was introduced that meets the requirements of the Hospital Future Act (KHZG). Through the central control center that was created in theproject, a new control software and process innovations will coordinate the main processes in the hospital. This reduces waiting times for patients, makes transports more efficient, uses bed capacities more efficiently and reduces the coordination effort for employees. By partially automating routine processes, valuable time is freed up for patient care. In addition, the patient portal facilitates the communication and the (digital) cooperation between patients and the hospital by providing important information prior to hospitalization and enabling the transmission of relevant medical data to the hospital. Patient entertainment is available during the stay and the hospital can collect Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) for quality assurance and improvement after the stay.

Potential to increase 7,000 additional occupancy days

> 225,000 Managed transports per year

Potential to save 500,000 minutes during occupancy

“Not only will our patients benefit from better services, but the hospital staff will also be relieved of their coordination tasks thanks to the introduction of this innovative overall solution. This project will make an important contribution to our goal of putting people first.“
