Automated and lean logistics in new buildings

Innovative Logistics – from Concept to Commissioning

With around 3,500 employees, Kantonspital Baden (Baden Cantonal Hospital) offers high-tech medicine at the highest level. The KSB treats around 23,000 inpatients in 400 beds every year and carries out around 340,000 outpatient consultations.

In 2025, the Kantonsspital Baden (KSB) will move to a new replacement building on the KSB campus in order to optimally meet the requirements of future hospital operations on the campus. Operations in the new building as a place of healthcare must ensure future-oriented patient care and equally efficient support processes. Automated and lean logistics are essential and guarantee security of supply.
UNITY has been supporting KSB for over three years in the development and commissioning of an innovative, resource-saving logistics organization. The target processes were defined for the new “transportation and warehouse logistics” area and requirements for employees, infrastructure and systems were consistently derived from this. In addition to driverless transport systems (DTS), the logistics employees are now automated and optimized for transport orders for patient and material transports. The material management of around 40 recipients is consistently digital and the floor logistics ensure supply/disposal in line with requirements.
Together with the KSB team, UNITY is responsible for defining future logistics tasks, selecting and implementing new IT systems and setting up the target organization with around 30 employees. UNITY is currently managing the preparations for commissioning with regard to the move in order to support optimal hospital operations right from the start with the new logistics concept.
