Planning a state-of-the-art factory for maximum flexibility with low manufacturing costs

Highly Flexible Production of Kitchen Appliances
Willi Bruckbauer founded the company BORA in Raubling in Upper Bavaria in 2007. Today, BORA employs around 650 people from 25 nations worldwide at its sites in Raubling (GER), Munich (GER), Herford (GER), Niederndorf (AT) and Sydney (AUS). BORA develops and produces innovative premium built-in kitchen appliances with high design standards. After the cooktop extractor systems, the BORA X BO steam oven is the logical next step. BORA is thus evolving from a specialist in cooktop extractors to a specialist in the kitchen living space. The design blends harmoniously into the kitchen architecture and allows you to focus on the essentials: enjoying food together.
As a system provider, BORA now sells innovative solutions for the entire kitchen. In order to further increase its innovative strength, the company is now taking the next step: producing a significant proportion of the quantities at the Niederndorf site in Austria.
BORA‘s aim is to produce a wide range of products cost-effectively as part of this comprehensive transformation. To this end, the company is working with UNITY to plan a state-of-the-art factory that combines maximum flexibility with low manufacturing costs. In order to make optimum use of the limited space at the BORA site in Niederndorf, the factory will be built on three levels as a vertical factory.
Factory planning involves planning all processes, creating layouts, writing specifications for highly automated equipment and supporting procurement. The logistical heart of the factory is the automated high-bay warehouse. The entire planning is validated with the help of dynamic material flow simulations in collaboration with the experts from UNITY Operations.
The order processing and machine control processes are technically enabled by a modern IT/OT architecture that was developed together with UNITY. It ensures - from the ERP to the MES to the machine connection – that production can react flexibly to changing requirements.
“UNITY convinced us with excellent project work and proven experts for a wide range of topics: from factory planning and logistics to IT/OT architectures for controlling production and organizational development. We look forward to working with UNITY on the path to the start of production.”
