Nils Hoppe

At the end of 2024, I was able to take a four-week trip to Kenya. I spent most of my time there at Hope Menorah Primary School in Nakuru, Kenya's fourth-largest city.
The intense impressions I gained there every day and the wonderful people I had the opportunity to meet will surely stay with me for the rest of my life and have permanently changed my perspective on many things.
The abundance of negative news from around the world, the “higher, faster, further” syndrome, and, of course, the professional and personal challenges we face every day often distract us from what we truly need in life to be happy and from the privileges we enjoy every day, some of which we take for granted.
Among other things, the trip has taught me to view everyday situations with more distance. To “zoom out” and ask myself: Is this really important right now? This approach can also be applied in a professional context and helps me to set priorities, albeit on a completely different level than in the context of food, health, education, and medical care. I can only encourage everyone to consider swapping their next vacation for a trip like this or combining it with one. But even if we all just take a step back from constantly complaining about everything and instead become more aware of how good we actually have it, I am sure that it will change our lives for the better.
I am very grateful to UNITY for supporting me in taking this trip through its flexible working time models, allowing me to learn lessons that will stay with me for life. And, of course, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Help for Hope e.V. association. Thanks to the fantastic work of the team and the many volunteers, the association finances the entire running of the Hope Menorah Primary School, including meals and medical care.

If you would like to find out more about my stay and the work on site, please feel free to get in touch with me – I look forward to your questions and will be happy to answer them! www.linkedin.com/in/nils-hoppe-154a77206/
